Today is Memorial Day, it is the perfect day to spend with friends and family gathered around the barbecue grilling up some steaks, or relaxing with a beer. It is a day for rest and relaxation, and I hope that you enjoy it!
It is especially important this year when we have spent so much time apart and experienced so much turmoil and isolation. Being able to finally get together and celebrate will be a much-needed break for so many of us.
But Memorial Day means more than just a chance for a three-day weekend and a supremely delicious grilled steak or hotdog (though that is REALLY important too).
Memorial Day is a day where we remember all those who have fallen in service to our country. It is a day to honor the brave men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice to protect us and our way of life. Memorial Day is a time to pause and reflect on the blessings that we have been given and the people that gave everything to safeguard them.
In addition to the celebration that you enjoy with your family and friends and the rest that you hopefully enjoy, it is also a great time to take a few minutes in remembrance.
Here are a few ideas:
- Raise an American flag.
- Attend a Memorial Day parade.
- Share stories and remember the sacrifice of a fallen loved one.
- Today at 3pm honor the National Moment of Remembrance, spend a moment in silence remembering the brave men and women who have died in service protecting the United States.
- Visit a veteran’s cemetery.
We at Individual Fitness hope that you enjoy your holiday and all of the ways that you choose to celebrate it. May it be happy and relaxing, full of gratitude and joy.
Happy Memorial Day everyone!
Thank you to my father John Olson Sr. and my Uncle Chuck for your service! And a special thank you and moment of remembrance for Uncle Bob, who is resting in peace.
