Your Burning Questions Answered

By far, the most common questions we get asked are:

  • What inspired you to found Individual Fitness?
  • How is Individual Fitness different from other gyms?
  • Who is Individual Fitness for?

All great questions! And all important when you’re looking to choose a partner to help you achieve the health and wellness goals that you are working towards.

So, I figured in this blog post I would take a little bit of time to answer these questions. Here goes:

What inspired you to found Individual Fitness?

The fitness industry is overdue for disruption.

Think about how many people set New Year’s resolutions to lose weight or get in shape…and how many of those same people achieve their goals or stick with the programs they start? Not many (in fact most don’t).

This isn’t a new phenomenon, it’s been happening for years. Most gyms have a business model built around members not showing up.

This is one reason I left Planet Fitness during their early growth stages. I had an opportunity in the early 90’s to help expand the chain and open multiple locations throughout the country.

But I knew in my gut I needed to do things differently.

But I knew in my gut I needed to do things differently.

I wanted people to feel comfortable coming into the gym, regardless of their current fitness level and goals. Not everyone wants to be a bodybuilder or run marathons.

From the time I was a little kid spending summers with my grandmother on her farm I’ve been fascinated with health and fitness. She talked to me about vitamins and protein and as well as the benefits of exercise. But she did more than talk. I watched her walk 3 miles a day, every day, in addition to the work she did on the farm.

My interest in fitness continued to grow throughout my life, and eventually my path led me here. I followed my heart and vision for creating a fitness studio that was as unique as each client that comes through the door.

Believe it or not, my first client was my brother John. Weighing over 300 lbs., and unhappy with how he felt and looked, he came to me for help. We got started in a basement and the rest, as they say, is history. 

How is Individual Fitness different from other gyms?

Well, first of all we never call it a “gym”. Gyms are those cookie-cutter block buildings full of amped up bodybuilders and sparking workout equipment where you can spend the entire lifespan of your fitness journey beginning, middle, end — without ever encountering another individual, let alone get personalized attention. We call our facilities studios, and the individual is our focus, just like the name implies. When you come and join Individual Fitness you get personal attention — you meet with your personal trainer, we help you shape a fitness and nutrition plan so that you can achieve YOUR specific goals. That is why our slogan is Your Vision + Our Strategy = Results. And they are guaranteed! You really won’t find that anywhere else.

Who is Individual Fitness for?

This is actually one of my very favorite questions, and it has a super short, simple answer. Individual Fitness is for EVERYONE! Anyone who wants to improve their health and fitness. Anyone who wants to regain strength, endurance, and be able to live a more active and vibrant life. Individual Fitness is the perfect place for everyone no matter what stage you are at in your fitness journey.

Hopefully this helps you get to know a little more about us, and maybe answer a burning question that you may have had.
