I began my journey with IF in February of 2019, only a few months after they had opened. I had been watching the construction happening and wondering if this may be a place that would be able to help me. I had driven through the parking lot daily on my way to work convincing myself to go in and check it out. That day in February I finally stopped in to see what IF was all about. I was very hesitant at first to make a commitment as I was unsure if this was something I would be able to do. I have a neuromuscular disease called CMT (Charcot Marie Tooth). CMT is a progressive disease that causes me to have weakness and neuropathy in both my hands and feet. I wear a leg brace on one leg and the other I have a steel rod and screws in my ankle, I also walk with a cane. I have struggled with my weight for most of my adult life and was always searching for activity that was safe for me to do given my condition. I wasn’t sure if a gym was the right environment for me as I worried about my ability to be able to do the exercises. After speaking with Jim, I soon realized IF was not the same as a gym. He made a plan for me and assured me that we would alter any exercises if needed. We talked about nutrition and how important that will be in the process. I trusted in the IF plan for me that Jim created. That was the first step.
Since then I have increased by sessions at IF. I have seen such great improvement in so many areas of my health. My balance has improved as I can do exercises now standing without my cane that I could have never done before. They have helped me work on strengthening my core which ultimately helps me when I walk. They listen to me when I have concerns and adjust my sets seamlessly as if they were already thinking about the “what ifs” before I mention it. They encourage me and motivate me to push beyond my limits. I have set goals for myself physically such as in 2019 I rode a small portion of the Trans NH Bike ride for the MDA on my recumbent trike. This June I also did the ride virtually and rode 150 miles in the month of June on my stationary bike. I never would have been able to accomplish these goals without IF helping me along the way.
IF has shown me that even though I face challenges in my life physically there is always a way to reach your goals. They have not only created an individual plan for me but been there every step of the way helping me get to where I am today! I would highly encourage anyone who is thinking about joining to stop in and give it a try. Their name says it all “Individual” and they will create a plan with you. All you need to do is put in the work and they will help you reach your goals!
