‘Tis the Season of Eatin’: 10 Tips to Rid Your Holiday Bloat

Tips to reduce holiday bloat

This is the time of year where indulging in rich foods and not exercising can lead to excess weight gain. Many people become frustrated during the holiday season, but it doesn’t have to be like this! By implementing these simple changes you will reduce bloating during the holidays without depriving yourself or your family of delicious food.

Eat only when you feel hunger

Just because it’s breakfast time doesn’t mean you have to eat. If you don’t feel physical (not emotional) hunger, don’t eat.

Increase your water intake

A general minimum is to drink half your body weight in ounces of water daily, but if you’re feeling pretty bloated, aim for a gallon.

Sweat every day

Prioritize workouts to reduce bloat.

Cut your sodium

Sodium makes you retain water, so focus on less salty foods for a bit.

Make daily movement a priority

Aside from your actual workouts, get out and move by walking, hiking, leisurely bike riding, etc. every single day.

Up your fruit and veggie intake

Not only are they good for you, but the water content will help you shed the bloat.

Cut your alcohol consumption

Alcohol never does good things to the body, so aim to drastically reduce your intake, especially heavier alcohols like beer.

Sleep

Allow your body to repair and recover.

Sauna

Spending some time in a sauna or steam room will help you sweat out the toxins that are causing you to bloat.

Avoid processed/packaged foods

These foods will NOT help your bloating issues, but eating whole foods will make you feel better.

The holidays can be a joyous time, but they can also be a source of stress for those who struggle with overindulgence. By following these tips, you can enjoy the season while still looking and feeling your best. Merry Everything! 🙂
