John Olson




John holds a Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science from the University Of North Dakota. During his education, he gained valuable experience as a teaching assistant which included adapting exercise regimens for 200 people with various physical and health limitations. As one professor stated, “What John has done for us in six months is more than most trainers would accomplish in 20 years.” John is certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. His experience ranges from working with top athletes in an exercise physiology lab to cardiac patients in a rehabilitation setting.

John joined Individual Fitness in the summer of 2004. He chose IF because it reflects his philosophy of a healthy lifestyle. John shares the belief that services to the client must reflect the latest research, techniques, and training in order to best help individuals achieve their goals.

Another factor in healthy lifestyle practices that John advocates is, “It’s all about having fun. Somewhere along the line, we have forgotten how to have fun. In order for clients to succeed it’s my job to make sure they are truly enjoying themselves.” John takes the three main components of fitness – cardiovascular exercise, resistance training, and nutrition, and adapts and customizes a program that addresses all of these factors while creating an enjoyable experience for the client. How does he know this works – personal experience? Thirteen years ago John weighed over 300 pounds. He reports “He hated exercise and wasn’t about to give up fast food. All that changed one day, when I was gasping for breath after I walked up a single flight of stairs. I changed the way I prepared my food, started lifting weights and engaged in cardiovascular training regularly. Before I knew it, I had lost 130 pounds and was having “fun.”

As a part of his responsibilities at IF he constantly researches and addresses the newest developments in personal fitness and evaluates their potential for our clients. Rest assured he tries every new idea first to evaluate if it’s acceptable and can be adapted to client’s programs.
